Freshman Year and the Unexpected

Freshman Year and the Unexpected

Unexpected. That's the word that my roommate used to describe freshman year. And I'd have to agree with her. There have been so many amazing surprises—the people I've gotten to meet and the memories we've all gotten to make.

Living in Tutwiler, laughing (and crying) at all the things we've come across in the community bathrooms.

Exploring Tuscaloosa, eating Fruttabowls and Insomnia cookies almost every week (oops).

Driving all over town, listening to music, with all the windows rolled down.

Spending game days in the upper bowl, yelling "Yea, Alabama!" and finally remembering all the words.

Falling asleep on the back porch of the sorority house.

Watching movies on a laptop, everyone piled on the bed and on the floor of Tut 230.

Walking around the quad, investigating different halls, discovering Reese Phifer is actually haunted.

Going to kickboxing and hiphop classes at the rec and seriously regretting it after.

Seeing the sun set from the top of Magnolia parking deck, turning on worship music and singing all together.

Hiding in each other closets, underneath beds, and scaring each other, never neglecting to post the video of it to Facebook.

I wouldn't trade this year for anything. God says "all things for good," and I truly believe that now. Even during the hard moments this year, even in the painful situations, I can still (and even more so) attest to God's faithfulness.

Those nights spent alone in my dorm, He was there. At every swap and every date party, He was there. All those Sundays where I would just sit in my car after church, He was there. Even in the moments I felt Him the least, He was there.

His love whispers to us gently in these sweet times and screams more loudly in the hard times. At the end of it all His love is truly all we could ever need. It's enough to carry us, to lift us up out of the deepest, darkest of places.

In the unexpected joy and the unexpected sorrow, He is always there. We serve a God of the unexpected, and He is a God who makes it all good.
