The Gift of Singleness

The Gift of Singleness

Singleness. Most of us see it as a season to endure. But what if I told you singleness is a gift?

Coming into college I had a picture of what I wanted in a guy—a man after God's heart, someone like my dad and brother, a best friend.

But holding on to that standard is a lot harder than I thought.

It would be so easy to settle for the first guy that pays any attention. It would be so easy to date just for fun and pass the time until God brings "the one." But I have to remember how faithful our God is. How patient He is in pursuing us.

I want Him to be the one that brings it all together. I guess that's what it means when He's Lord of your life. You surrender. Not my will but Yours be done. And if that means being single for a while then it's okay.

Because sometimes it's more about the mission He has for us in our season of singleness, rather than our readiness.

There are so many girls I know that are mature and godly, ready for a serious relationship. But God has set them apart to further His kingdom. There's nothing I want more than to be close to God and for Him to use me. If He can use me better on my own for now then He's answering my prayer.

Let's thank God for this time in our lives that we will never get back. Let's cherish these precious moments of undivided attention towards Him. And let's make His mission our mission. Let's be set apart, completely concerned with matters on His heart.

Let our ears be tuned to hear His voice and no one else's.
Let our eyes seek His face and no one else's.
Let our hands write of His love and no one else's.
Let our voices sing His praises and no one else's.

When we ask God to give us the desires of our hearts, we expect Him to end our waiting. But what if He's already given us everything we've asked for?

More of Himself
.

"You have given [her] [her] heart’s desire, And You have not withheld the request of [her] lips. For You meet [her] with the blessings of good things; You set a crown of fine gold on [her] head. [She] asked life of You, You gave it to [her], Length of days forever and ever. . . Splendor and majesty You place upon [her]. For You make [her] most blessed forever; You make [her] joyful with gladness in Your presence. For [she] trusts in the Lord, And through the lovingkindness of the Most High [she] will not be shaken." Psalm 21:2-7
