What I Learned My First Month of College

What I Learned My First Month of College

After being in college for about a month now, I've definitely learned a lot. Probably more so than anything else is how little we can trust our feelings.

From an emotional rush week to pledging a sorority, meeting new people, (walking everywhere), trying to find lecture halls, and going to swaps and parties. . . it's been quite a month. Most days are so fun and exciting, and I truly have enjoyed college. But there are also times when I feel discouraged.

It's hard trying to get to know new people, and in a pledge class of 130 girls, it's nearly impossible to know all of them. It's hard navigating through the college scene while trying to also honor the Lord.

The enemy will lie to us and tell us we're alone and there's no purpose in the chaos and the questions, that there's no point in introducing yourself to that girl again or eating with someone random at breakfast or even going to the swap.

When really, God is trying to tell us 'This is only the beginning. Watch and see what I will do. Watch and see how I use all of these seemingly random things for the purpose and plan I have for your life. Just trust Me.'

I don't have to have it all figured out. All of these loose ends I'm trying to tie, well, He's going to take care of them. It's a process. That's life—a beautiful journey that He's taking us on.

"We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things." 1 John 3:19-20

When we start to feel lonely, worried, or stressed we must remember how weak our hearts can be. We must steady our hearts before Him and let His word align our thoughts with His. God is so much greater than our feelings, and He is faithful. As we continue to seek Him and spend time with Him, He'll remind us of His promises. That's what we hold on to and rest in. And as life swirls around us with no intention of slowing down, we still have peace knowing He is our immovable anchor. For that, I am so thankful.
